This plant is growing in a woodland situation in North Carolina, blooming in late May, early June. The tubular flowers remind me of coral honeysuckle.

I just stumbled upon Indian Pink when looking for tubular red blooms. Looks like it may fit your plant as well. http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/gardens-gardening/your-garden/plant-finder/plant-details/kc/f640/spigelia-marilandica.aspx

Thank you, Bobby. That is indeed, Indian Pink. I could not identify it because it was such a poor specimen, but there are other plants growing in the sun nearby that are upright and very pretty.
