We just bought a house with nice landscaping and perennials in the front and back gardens. This plant in particular has taken over one section of the garden. It smells like it could be an herb but we’re not sure. What is it? Should we get rid of it completely or just trim it back to a section of the garden?

Looks like bee balm to me.
Looks for red flowers in a few weeks.
You may want to pull out unwanted sprouts around the main clump every spring.

It looks like a salvia. You could tell by the smell; go to a nursery and pinch the leaf of a salvia and smell it. Then, smell yours. If they are the same, the plant is a keeper.
