Notes:

Hi There, I’ve been trying to start Oriental Poppies from seed for a while now. I REALLY thought they’d finally started coming as in picture #1. Now, most are starting to sprout upwards and getting tiny yellow flowers as in picture #2. Have I been babying WEEDS all this time? or is this what a 1st year plant should look like? These are only appearing in the places I’ve scattered seeds…HELP! I don’t know whether to keep them, or pull them.

The yellow blooms are not Oriental Poppies. My guess is your plant in the first photo looks more like wild mustard or wild radish (Raphanus raphanistrum), both are in the (Brassicaceae) family. This link has some closeup pics of Oriental Poppy’s leaves. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/80517/
