This plant blooms each year near a creek in the Dawsonville area near Lake Lanier. Can someone help me to identify this beautiful plant?

This is a Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis). It is a great flower for damp sunny spots.

Sounds like Cardinal flower habitat. Looks like cardinal flower from here and a very rare Horizontalis variety as well! http://www.wiseacre-gardens.com/plants/perennial/cardinal.html
