Notes:
Plant looks like a vine and is growing in the forest behind my house. Myself and my husband thought it was some kind of ivy.

Haha, I hope it is not that thug too. I did thought about Pipsissewa, but ROSA PACK had mentioned: “looks like a vine” so the E. fortunei creeper got the vote. If this isn’t not a vine then you are correct stone!

No! It’s not that horrible invasive japanese thug! You have a delicate native… some people call it Pipsissewa, other people call it spotted winter green. (Cimaphila maculata) Whatever you decide to call it… avoid walking over it too much, and don’t try to move it… it doesn’t transplant easily.
