Found this growing in the backyard. Anyone know what kind of plant/flower this is?
looks like crown vetch, a groundcover used to control erosion
Looks like a pink vetch. http://healthyhomegardening.com/Plant.php?t=Vetch&pid=3137
I have these in my yard too and consider them a weed! They are prolific and not too pretty after the short bloom time.
After much searching last night, I think it might be Michaux’s milkvetch/Astragalus michauxii, but I know it is definitely in the vetch family. http://www4.ncsu.edu/~wahoffma/ConservationEcology/ConservationEcology.html. Thank you all! I have fallen in love with wild plants and flowers!!!
I, too, like native plants and flowers, but vetch is NOT one you want. It climbs into shrubbery, chokes out other ground plants, and is the devil to get rid of. Pull it up now before it takes hold.
Looks like a milk vetch.
I agree with beccaconn.
I think Astragalus michauxii too.
Definitely not invasive…
Did some additional reading.
Now thinking possibly Tephrosia virginiana.
Wow, Stone- that’s a dead ringer! I think you have it! I’ve only found one, but it sure is pretty. Thank you
Attaboy Stone! Dead ringer to my peeps too.
