Bobby Master Identifier says:
I think this is a small cocklebur seed. Smaller than normal but within the size range reported in Wikipedia, “cocklebur seeds are produced in a hard, spiny, globose or oval double-chambered, single-seeded bur 0.32Ð0.79 inches (0.81Ð2.0 cm) long.” Photo from OSU: http://seedbiology.osu.edu/seed_id/asteraceae/xanthium_strumarium.html
