We have a flowering plant that just started blooming in our natural area. We haven’t been able to identify it.

stone is right. It is a species tulip called Lady Tulip (Tulipa clusiana).

At a guess, I’d say a species tulip…. The foliage doesn’t look right for a rain lily… Too bad that you couldn’t get a close up of the leaves… Those iris kinda overwhelm the shot.
