Sorry I cut the bug in half when I snapped the photo – it was near the ceiling. These things are usually 1-3″ long when I see them on the walls. Not a huge number, but I kill a couple a week it seems. They have these long legs almost all the way around them and it’s hard to determine the head from the tail. The photo is of the tail. Any idea what they are? Thanks!

Thanks Bobby! I’ve seen a lot of centipedes in my day, but nothing that looks like this. I keep my basement dry with a dehumidifier, but I do have some cracks I need to seal. After reading the article, it dawned on me that I’ve been seeing fewer spiders downstairs – I think these guys have been feeding on them! I’m not opposed to a few creepy crawlies – as long as they aren’t poisonous and don’t pose a threat to my house. I think I’ll let these guys stay.

Looks like a house centipede to me. They are harmless and eat roaches, maybe spiders, too. I find one every now and then in the bathtub. I just put a glass over it and slide an envelope underneath and relocate it either in the house or outside.
