mystery in my garden. This appeared last fall and was evergreen over winter –now just lots of leaves and about 4 ft tall. Plant or shrub or flower? Thanks!

Groundsel Autumn blooming native shrub. http://www.carolinanature.com/trees/baha.html The page linked to calls it a sunflower.. Actually an aster.
