This is a small woody tree or a shrub, deciduous. Its leaves look exactly like a dogwood, except the veins are alternate, not opposite. When it leafs out in the spring, it has an extremely fragrant red flower—smells almost like a minty vanilla. It is located in the woods around my Gainesville home.
