Notes:

I moved to this property in Maine in December. This spring, these plants are popping up all over my back yard. I have 20-25 of them and they are fast growing. Ca anyone help with identification? They are no existing trees/shrubs on the property.

Thanks.

Sheila

I’m in the section called ‘Midcoast’. I never considered growing blueberries. I will look into it. My yard is small but that section is off to the side. I’ll keep you posted. Sheila

I doubt they will pull… I would go out there with a mattock and grub them out, and plan to repeat when the missed roots send up additional growth. It’s ok though… Like I always tell people around here when digging smilax… Don’t worry about missed roots, they will come back, and we can get them then… So.. what about the blueberries? Are you in the barrens, or too far north?

Thanks for the identification. If I just pull them up, will it take care of it or do I need to do something more? Thanks. Sheila

I’m thinking polygonum cuspidatum or japanese knotweed. It’s a mite invasive… You might not want to let this one live… No existing trees? Let’s get some apples planted! Or do you live on the blueberry barrens? I googled Bath… You’re some Down-East…
