I found this plant growing in one of our pots. It gets full sun most of the day, it is one main, thin stalk with a bunch of branches with leaves coming off them. At first I thought it was a flower growing from some seeds I planted, but it has rapidly grown to be about 3 feet tall and the stalk is getting woody at the bottom. I have no idea what it is or where it came from!

It is not a tree although some of the helianthus varieties can reach six to eight feet in the fall! Check this link and compare
Lemon Queen is one of the Helianthus hybrids that are used in perennial gardens.
