Notes:

I bought my home about 8nyears ago and this beautiful tree was already planted in my front yard. It only blooms once a year (spring) and it is about 12 foot tall. I keep the base trimmed up so you can see the other plants that I’ve planted underneath it. I would like to know if what the previous owner about the plant is true and if it a Tulip Magnolia Tree. A simple Google search returned pictures of the said Magnolia tree but none that match what I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It’s hard to tell if this is a species or one of the numerous hybrids from the genus Magnolia. Perhaps the Magnolia Society International could help narrow down which kind you have. For now check out these included links for some of varieties of Magnolia.
