I need help identifying this type of tree. I also need some pointers on how I should prune it back to reduce overall size, and when it should be done. I really appreciate all of the help.

The growth habit and detailed photograph of the bark….looks like Japanese Zelkova serrata. As far as pruning, because of the vase shaped growth formation of primary branches emerging from the trunk proper care is required …find an CERTIFIED ARBORIST.
