Notes:
Found south central Missouri yesterday, moist and shade location, river nearby; leaves were growing out of each segment of the ‘root’. Area had been flooded in 2013, not sure if that has any bearing on the ID. Would appreciate any assistance in finding out what this unique plant is – had never seen it there before.

I am guessing this maybe either Hydrophyllum appendiculatum,Great waterleaf, Appendaged waterleaf or Hydrophylum canadense,Bluntleaf waterleaf. http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=HYAP http://www.esajournals.org/doi/abs/10.2307/1948497
