3 weeks ago I bought a floral arrangement that had 3 sprigs of a unique piece of foliage. I have tried unsuccessfully to ID.

When fresh, the sprig had a bright red stem and burgundy leaves that alternated up the stem in an upward manner as shown in the first picture. Within a week, the top leaves appeared to be coated with a bright orange coating that started to crack and flake off. The top leaves then started to “open” up and in the center was a green bud comprised of 3 petals. As that opened there was nothing inside.

As info, I am in Atlanta GA and the bouquet was purchased from Kroger grocery store. Unfortunately bouquets are received pre-made so no one at Kroger could help ID the foliage.
