Notes:

Waxy leaves. Has sent out a few buds on occasion during late Summer but never actually bloomed. Some semblance to a myrtle or perhaps something my phone app identifies as fagraea but still not able to pin-point identification. Thanks to all who help me! I want to identify properly for good pruning habits.

Laura735, thank you very much for taking the time to research this and comment. After scanning your link and several others, I am in agreement with your suggestion. Definitely an illicium. Thank you!

With out its flowers to be certain. I’m guessing only, maybe an Illicium cutivar. If the flowers are yellow-green, then this might be Illicium parviflorum. Check it out and see if you have a match. Best wishes! http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=e649
