Notes:

Found in a patch of weeds on hillside facing West. It is no longer in bloom, but I think it stayed in bloom for about 3 weeks.

Thank You! This truly had me stumped. When researching, I came across the milkvine but I wasn’t sure it truly matched the description. It is nice to have confirmation on this.

Maroon Carolina milkvine, (Matelea carolinensis) http://www.southeasternflora.com/view_flora.asp?plantid=372 The mateleas aren’t well known, and can’t be had commercially, so…. enjoy the ones that you have… I’ve been planting the (wild collected) seeds next to my garden fence, they are slow to grow from seed.
