Notes:

This photo was taken about 2 weeks ago, and I would like to know what it is before I start landscaping that area. I searched online and the closest thing I could find was in the sumac family, but not exactly this bush. Please help. Thanks

You’re going to want to be very careful landscaping… Better yet… Don’t. Buckeye is a very nice bush that should be more widely used. While it’s a native shrub, I rarely see it… And with those brilliant flowers… You can see it a long way off… http://stonethegardener.tumblr.com/tagged/buckeye My experience with buckeye… Is that while the seeds readily grow, they come up in the winter… And the cold kills them. Saving the seeds until spring doesn’t work. Transplanting wild buckeye from it’s natural location…. Is hit or miss, with most attempts failing. So… That leaves collecting the seed and planting them in a container and bringing them indoors during cold snaps… And then setting them out 5 years or so later…. After they’re large enough to look like something…. So… Protect those bushes!
