Notes:

IÕd like to know what it is and how harshly it can be pruned. We just bought the house so I have no idea of the flowering habits or if itÕs evergreen. Thank you for the advice.

    Without flowers to help narrow down, I’m wondering if yours might be a type of Hydranea (?). Check out one of the species in group, the Panicle hydrangea (Hydangea paniculata) from the Guru’s included link. But flowers are needed for a confirmed ID. If this was my plant, I would hold off any pruning for now until after it flowers in the next spring or summer depending on the plant’s flowering cycle. when it blooms and you still don’t know, make new post with photo of flowers Best wishes! http://www.walterreeves.com/landscaping/panicle-hydrangea-identification-and-pruning/
