What is this?

Notes:

I found this in Woodstock GA on a woodland forest piece of land. It was spreading around a creek and I have never seen it before. I would think this would be a native plant of GA and it looks like it would be invasive. Could you please let me know what it is I would appreciate it so much.

    not invasive, listed as endangered in New York.

    I wish we could grow it here in middle ga…
    I’ve seen people dig it out of the mtns and attempt to grow it here… without success.

    Thank you so much for the information. I am attempting to plant some in my backyard which is wooded. I will let you know if I am successful in the transfer. The property is in my family and there were several different plants I am interested in finding out about.
