Notes:

I don’t think it’s Kniphofia because the leaves start off dark green near stem then maroon on the rest of the leaf. They appear to be elliptical. The whole plant is about 14 inches high. I’ve only seen them in this color. I’ve seen them in several front gardens as border plants but no-one knew the name. When I saw them they were at their peak as the photo shows. It was Halloween night.
