    Hello. This is the black walnut(Juglans nigra)tree. Black walnuts trees produce these tennis ball sized green husks. This tree also produces chemicals that other plants cannot tolerate.

    Thanks – we got great replies and all the trees near and affecting our pastures are now gone and the nuts etc removed to protect our horses. This tree is a major cause of founder in horses, not the nuts so much as the bark. leaves etc when horses walk on our digest them.
