Notes:

My parents have had this tree in their yard for several years, but they are not sure what kind of tree it is. Can you help identify this tree?

    This late spring/early summer was the first time this tree has ever bloomed. They are rather strange looking blooms. The first picture shows what they look like. They look like upside down tulip flowers and they have small balls around the very edges of the petals. You can see some of the small balls if you look very closely at the first picture. The color of the flower petals were not very brilliant. The tree was heavily fertilized this past spring which might have prompted it to bloom for the first time.
