I have been battling this weed in my garden and yard. It’s invasive, and pops up all over the place. Growth is vertical, on tender stems that can get over 6″ tall if allowed. It loves my planting beds, my mulched garden path, and now it’s showing up in my lawn. Pulling weeds daily and I can hardly keep up. What the heck is it? I have been to several websites with pictures but have yet to find it. Thanks!

The buggers do seem to be heavy this year. Check out this link on Walter’s site. http://www.walterreeves.com/gardening-q-and-a/mulberry-weed-2/

Looks a lot like lemon balm to me, at least, it looks like seedlings of MY lemon balm plant (melissa officianais.) If you rub the leaves between your fingers and get a lemony scenty, that’s it. I wouldn’t pluck up ALL of it if I were you, as it has many culinary and herbal uses, and bees love it!

Thanks for the comments, y’all. I know Lemon Balm and this ain’t it. But the Mulberry Weed link is a perfect fit. Thus, I have officially dubbed it Mulberry Weed. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Now, if it didn’t grow so close to my other plants I’d nuke all of it with RoundUp… part of my ongoing problem! These guys have to be hand-pulled, and they like to hide… But that’s all part of gardening, isn’t it? Anyway, thanks for the input, and happy weeding to you all.
