I enjoy listening to your radio show on Saturday mornings. I hope you can answer a few gardening questions for me. We have a weed that first appeared after having a tree cut down probably 6-7 years ago and also had the stump ground. This growth is green and has a little white bloom on it, what is really characteristic of it is a root I call a white carrot and the runners from the root are stretchy. Last year I took a sample of it to my local Pike Nursery and they suggested Image Herbicide which I connected to my garden hose and sprayed at 2 intervals 6 weeks apart. It did appear that the upper growth was affected at that time but it is back this year. Any suggestions. Sending 3 pictures, 2 of the upper growth and 1 of the root.

The other question I have is: Is there a pre-emergent that I can spray on my pine island beds, it seems I battle the same weeds every spring and I am sure they just reseed themselves before I get them all cleared out.

I can’t make out the leaf detail of your weed but your picture of the root part and your description of the roots sounds like it might be florida betony. Compare with photos on this site http://carteret.ces.ncsu.edu/files/library/16/2-FloridaBetony.pdf
