Notes:

I found a few plants last year in the woods that I thought may be iris. I transplnated them to my backyard and they have finally bloomed! Does Georgia have native irises?

    This appears to be a dwarf bearded iris. Yes, Ga. and the other Southern states have native irises.

    Your iris looks like Iris brevicaulis, or Zigzag iris, the last to bloom of the Louisiana iris types.

    I’ve found them growing in Milledgeville too. If you drive out to the swamps (near you), you can also see large patches of Virginia iris.

    Sorry guys, not the dwarf crested iris…

    I found these irises along the river walk in Milledgeville. I wasn’t sure what they were as they hadn’t bloomed. I just took a chance. For a year I thought I planted some type of tall grass. lol
