Notes:
I have been seeing this flowering plant along side the road and at the edge of the woods in North Carolina. I noticed some at the edge of a field, and at the beginning of a wooded area (s0rt 0f). It has a soft scent when just smelling it but when you crush it, it has a lemony or citrus scent. Does anyone know what this plant is, and if it is used for anything

I do not have any experience or knowledge in aromatherapy. According to sources you can dry the blooms of Coreopsis for dried flowers arrangement and potpourri. As for the leaves, I haven’t able to locate any sources regarding their uses. I also like to use aromatic plants and flowers from my garden for making potpourri. Whenever I introduce a new ‘safe’ plant materials regarding this project, I monitor closely for any allergic reaction from family members to know whether it is safe to use. On the aromatic plants. I “discovered” the bruised goldenrod stems and leaves smell very pleasant. I also collect the resin from my pine trees and use it for potpourri as well. Gosh, I could go on and on about this fun project… Best wishes otcb114!

Thank you for your very informative responses. Do you know if you can use the flowers in a sachet or something. Its a shame not to be able to use them for some form of aromatherapy or something. They smell so nice

I can’t see the rest of the plant to be certain. But this might be tall coreopsis, tall tickseed (Coreopsis tripteris). According to sources the flowers, bruised foliage and rhizomes have a sweet fragrant. A great plant for songbirds, bees, butterflies, and makes good cut flowers.
