Can anyone tell me what this plant is. I was given some by my 92 year old neighbor. Hers come back every year but mine have not. I would love to buy a bunch of these to fill up a flower bed with. They seem to bloom all summer and add a lot of color.

It looks like melampodium, but I thought it was an annual. Maybe it comes up from seed from the previous year.

Suzanne, THANK YOU so much. I looked the name up you gave in Google images and that’s it! I have been trying to find out what these are for several years. My neighbor that shared them with me is going to be so tickled to know what they are also. Another neighbor gave her some years ago before they moved and we have not seen them any place else. I sure appreciate you taking the time to comment. Now I can buy some to plant. I found a reference regarding them being annuals but it stated that you might want to dead head at the end of the season to prevent volunteers. Perhaps she spreads the seeds herself each year or the birds do it for her.

Melampodium is an annual that readily self seeds. I have a local store that sells it. I have bought a low growing variety and a taller one. The low growing one has self seeded now for several years.
