| Pruning - Calendar |
| Q: |
Do you have a pruning calendar that tells me when to do what in my landscape? |
| A: |
The Home & Garden section of the Atlanta Journal and Constitution published a very nice pruning calendar in 2003.
When viewed on a sheet of newsprint, it was gorgeous. When reduced to fit onto a sheet of typing paper it was impossible to read.
I have the AJC calendar here.
I also have my original file here.
I think you'll find that my file, while not as pretty, is more readable.
You'll need Adobe Reader on your computer to view the files.
BOOKS
Most pruning knowledge is gained simply by doing it frequently and observing the results but a reference can get you off to the right start.
"Pruning Made Easy" by Lewis Hill (Storey Publishing, $19.95) is a favorite of mine. "The Pruning Book" by Lee Reich (Taunton Press, $19.95) and American Horticultural Society Pruning & Training by Christopher Brickell and David Joyce (DK Adult, $35.00) are good too.
"Basic Elements of Pruning" is an audiobook by Nick Federoff (Environmental Media, $24.95). I haven't heard it, but Nick is an excellent lecturer.
In addition, the University of Georgia has a good reference called Basic Principles of Pruning Woody Plants. |
