Fall Webworm
Every year in late summer and early fall, large spider
webs appear at the ends of tree branches. The fall webworm is the
larval stage of a moth that protects itself in webs that can contain
hundreds of caterpillars where they eat the tree's foliage. Although
unsightly, little permanent damage is caused.

Revenge Of the Vegetables!
I was gratified to find that other gardeners have the same
recollection of odd vegetables that I do. Although insect damage or
improper pollination causes most of the weirdness, some veggies simply
have big personalities.

Japanese Anemone (Anemone x
hybrida)
Perennial native to Asia. The
Japanese anemone is a spreading plant that produces 2-inch open-faced
flowers of white, lavender, or pink petals and yellow centers atop 3
foot stems. Flowers appear in the late summer to early fall. Easy to
grow and deer resistant, this plant does very well in partial shade.
