Knowledge:
Poinsettia Care
After The Holidays Brightly colored poinsettias are enjoyed by everyone
during the holidays. Afterward, you have two choices for the plant:
toss it or try to keep it alive for another season.
I
have tips on how to do just that. |

Garden
Calendar:
Plant woody vines like
Carolina jessamine, wisteria and cross vine now. Make sure to place
them next to a sturdy arbor and loosely tie the young vine to it with
twine.

Q: Could you
please look at this problem with our white oak? In the last two months
the bark has come off, leaving a brownish-gray powdery substance. - Rod
H.
Q: A neighbor told me that this damage to my
cherry trees is caused by male deer leaving their calling cards for
does. Do you think they will survive?
- Jerry S.
Q: One of my four azaleas is starting to lose
its green leaf color. It's turning yellow from the bottom up. The other

Tip: Pruning
Almost a quarter of
the questions that Walter and I answer involve
pruning: when, how, how much, etc. When it comes to pruning plants the
rule of "less is usually better" is a good one to follow. Improper
pruning can damage a plant for the next year or perhaps its entire
life.

Armand's Clematis (Clematis armandii)
Evergreen vine native
to China. To me, this is the loveliest of all the non-native clematis
vines. The attractive laurel-shaped leaflets are 5-7 inches long. In
March, the vine is covered with 2-3 inch, star-shaped, crisp white and
highly fragrant flowers. Mature length is 25-30 feet. Learn
