Salt-tolerant Plants
Q: We just bought a house on the beach and we’ve been told that most regular plants will not grow there due to the high salt content of the air and soil. We need to put in grass and shrubs for landscaping. Can you recommend plants for the beach?
A: Depending on how far you are from the ocean, there are plenty of plants that will grow for you. Yaupon holly, cabbage palm, daylily, purpleheart and bermudagrass all have good salt tolerance. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your new neighbors: just knock on their doors and inquire about the plants you see in their landscapes
