Johnny Appleseed Tree- Planting
Q: A few years ago, I purchased a “Johnny Appleseed” tree. The variety is ‘Rambo’. It requires a second tree for pollination. Which one should I use and how far away should it be planted?
A: Apple trees are classified as early-, mid- or late-spring bloomers. ‘Rambo’ has flowers in mid-spring so ‘Red Delicious’, ‘Granny Smith’, ‘Fuji’ or ‘Gala’ would be appropriate. Plant your new tree within fifty feet of the ‘Rambo’.
