Christmas Cactus – HUGE!

My mom told me that you talked about Christmas cactus on the radio recently. She asked if I could take a picture of our family cactus and send it to you. It belonged to my mom’s mother for years, we are unsure of when she acquired it. My grandmother passed away in November of 1998. Since then, we have continued to keep it in the same protected spot outside of her old house in Conyers and bring it inside during the winter.

Our dilemma is that it is becoming too large to fit through a doorway. The current spread is right at 48 inches, as seen in the picture using a 48″ measuring stick. It involves a careful rotation, with a person assisting, to protect the branches as we negotiate a 36 inch doorway.

By the way, that is my mom in the picture, and just like my grandmother, she does not like to have her picture taken. It seems to run in the family.
