Deer Control

Q: I heard you mention on your radio show a motion-operated sprinkler. I could use one for deer control. Could you tell me where I can buy one?

A: I don’t have a deer problem but I know gardeners who have had good success repelling deer with a Scarecrow motion-activated sprinkler. It runs on a couple of nine-volt batteries and is connected to your water hose. When an animal crosses in front of it, the contraption hisses loudly and begins spraying water for a distance of twenty feet. Although advertised for deer control, I think it would also be effective against wandering dogs and cats. You can find a Scarecrow at www.deerbusters.com.
