Clematis – Dermatitis (Skin Rash)
Q: I mowed over this vine a couple of days ago and have broken out in a red itchy rash on my legs and chest. I used a string trimmer there about a month ago and had a horrible burning in my eyes, mouth and nose. I then broke out all over my body in a red itchy rash with tiny blisters. Please let me know if you have any clue!
A: The vine looks like sweet autumn clematis, Clematis terniflora. I haven’t heard of anyone getting a reaction from it….but everyone is different.
There is medical literature mentioning clematis dermatitis.
