Hydrangeas – Leaves Solid Green

Q: I have a variegated hydrangea but over the last two years, the leaves have begun to turn solid green, overtaking the nice green & white striped ones. Is there any way to fix it?

A: It’s common for variegated hydrangeas to revert back to their solid green state. Variegated leaves can’t photosynthesize so readily as green leaves so it is normal for the solid-leaved branches to be more vigorous. Cut off the green-leaved branches so they don’t shade out the variegated ones you like.
