Lycopodium – Ground Pine
Q: No one can tell me what this is. Can you shed some light on this mystery?

“It’s one of the plants commonly and collectively known as ground pine (sometimes running cedar). The botanical name is Lycopodium obscurum. This particular species is rarer than other related Lycopodiums and I don’t usually see it this far south. In fact, I only know of one other small colony in Gwinnett County.
“This evergreen is native to the east, is classified as a primitive clubmoss and a relative to some of the oldest ferns in the world. It’s a wonderful woodland ground cover, but practically impossible to successfully transplant. Enjoy.
