Q: I have a large area of this flowering plant growing at the back of my property. The plant looks like honeysuckle of some variety. Could you help me identify it?
A: The flowers certainly resemble honeysuckle but you have something better: native azaleas. There are many species, including the plumleaf azalea, flame azalea and sweet azalea.
They like growing under tall hardwoods or pines in woodsy, organic soil. If yours is gangly, it can be pruned moderately after bloom to shape it up. Otherwise, leave it alone and enjoy the flowers!
