New Plants- Watering

Q: When is the best time to water new plants such as begonias, daylilies, black eyed Susan, etc? Is it an old wives tale that you should not water in the evening? We have hundreds of new plants and it would be much easier to water after work.

A: If you can avoid getting water on the foliage, you can water anytime, morning or evening. My preference is morning, so leaves are dry before cool evening temperatures occur. Honestly, the plants you mention need watering just a few times to get established. They can then be left alone unless we get into a late summer drought..
