3- Maybe a species of beardgrass / bluestems (Bothriochloa)? Check out B. laguroides (silver beardgrass) and B. barbinodis (cane bluestem). Best wishes! https://www.google.com/search?q=Bothriochloa&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiQw5ruhOXNAhUB6iYKHbbJAwcQ7AkINA&biw=1867&bih=909#imgrc=D3vjrwByZeGIRM%3A

1-It does look similar to it. 2-Maybe something in the rosette grasses (Dichanthelium). According to sources some of the tall types grown in TX are D. acuminatum (tapered rosettegrass), D. scabriusculum(Wooly rosettegrass), D.scooarum (velvet grass / broom panic), D. shaerocarpon (roundseed panicgrass) etc… https://www.google.com/search?q=Dichanthelium&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjQrpXV_-TNAhUCJCYKHT70BdUQiR4IhgE&biw=1867&bih=909
