Notes:
I know it’s a maple. It appears to have grown crooked with the main trunk growing out to the left instead of straight up. It looks as if it is going to eventually uproot itself & fall over once the main trunk gets larger. Can this tree be saved or should I cut it down & get another? What kind of maple is it?

It’s a Japanese maple, with hundreds of varieties it will hard to tell which one this is. You might be able to get the correct ID with the Maple Society of North America.
Not having to have the specimen in person, I could only speculating here. In the second photo, to my eyes it appeared maybe the tree was grafted and perhaps the rootstock has outgrown the original specimen? According to sources a desirable variety Japanese maple are grafted on a more vigorous rootstock .
The experts from the Maple Society of North America could advise you further in which best course of action to save or not. Copy & pasted the included link below for information of grafted Japanese maple with a vigorous rootstock. Again I’m only speculating. Best wishes!
