Holly – Pruning

Q: We have 4 holly bushes. They have gotten out of hand and look more like trees and cover the windows. Please tell me the proper way to prune

A: Theresa Schrum replies: “There really is no wrong way to prune a holly. You just have to remember that where you cut is where it’s going to branch.

So, if you want it to be a certain height and width, you must cut it smaller than the desired size in order to achieve a full look. The best time to prune hollies is in the early spring (March – May).”
