Fig Tree – Transplanting
Q: I have a fig tree cutting in a jar of water. It has started new roots and new leaves. When should I transplant it to its permanent spot in my yard?
A: When the roots are four inches long in the water you can transfer the cutting to a one gallon pot. Keep it indoors; place the leaves six inches under a fluorescent bulb emitting at least 1200 lumens for 16 hours per day until you plant the fig outdoors in April.
