Kudzu Bugs Don’t Bite but Still Irritate

Q: I’ve seen a bunch of kudzu bugs flying about my townhome and landing on my door, windows, and siding. I could see them on my neighbor’s siding, too.

A: Looking like a brown English pea with legs, kudzu bugs appear in different numbers every year. They don’t bite, but they may accumulate under the siding of buildings in winter. They have a distinctive smell. When I drive past a particular patch of kudzu on Briarcliff Road and detect their odor, I know they will be a nuisance the following winter.
