Butterfly Weed – Seed Pod
Q: This just appeared on my butterfly weed plant. Are these seeds?
A: Yes, it’s just the seedpod full of seed. Each seed has a silky tail that will be caught in the wind and thus will be distributed around your neighborhood.
There is no need to worry that you’ll have too many butterfly weed plants. Several kinds of insects feed on the seeds, so only a few survive to germinate.
As you know, the flowers are a strong magnet for butterflies in summertime.
