Lady Beetle – Larval Form ID

Q: Recently I attended a Christmas parade, after which I took a break on a nearby bench. It had all these weird bugs crawling on it.

A: Wow, you can sit in my garden anytime if you bring these friends with you!

These are lady beetle larvae. I know they don’t look like an adult lady beetle but they are the intermediate step between lady beetle eggs and the finished beneficial insect.

Sadly, these guys won’t survive winter cold but there are likely lots of lady beetle eggs nearby that will hatch in spring.
