Flowering cherry killed by leaf spot

Q: I think I have a cherry tree that’s on its last leg. It was planted in 2001. There was not many leaves on it this summer and no blossoms that I can remember. Is it time to take it down?

A: I think your cherry has been infected with cherry leaf spot for several years. The annual loss of leaves early in the season caused the tree to decline. I don’t think it will recover.
